La Citadelle is a partially star shaped fort that was built in preparation of possible attacks after the War of 1812. It is a double walled fort which allows open access to the outside wall but only guided tours ($8) for the inside part.
Since 1920, this fort is home to the Royal 22e Regiment of the Canadian Army. Soldiers mind the area as you wander along and there still is a changing of the guard that takes place.
Although we did not go into the fort we did walk along the outside wall. At 108m (354 feet) above the banks of the St. Lawrence River, there are many nice views of the Chateau, the Lower Town and of course the St. Lawrence River.
