About a 20 minute drive east of Quebec City is the town of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre, home to a quite magnificant church and surrounding shrine and museum. The site's first church was built in 1658, with the final Basillica built in 1876 and then re-built after a fire in 1923.
The Basilica itself is graced with vast proportions and superb Neo-Roman stained-glass windows. The building itself is massive with several rooms for prayer. The altar contains several superb sculptures as well as detailed artwork of the day in the life of Sainte-Anne.
Stepping foot inside the Basilica leaves you in awe just because of the overwhelming magnitude of the gems inside. Open year around, the Shrine is also included in the country tours offered throughout the city.
