Rose Island is a small, lazy and remote island located 4-5 miles away from Paradise Island that has a small, basic docking for boats. The island has a nice beach area on the northern part, while on the southern part you can see sharks swim the waters by where the boats dock.
The visit to Rose Island is offered through a tour as a day at the island that includes boat transportation, snorkeling, food and drink (wine only). To say the least the offerings once at the island are modest. At the beach, they did not have enough snorkeling equipment for all the people on the tour and the snorkeling they do have to offer is not to be confused with most of the others found in the Caribbean, to the point where it is farcical. There is also limited shade compared to the number of people on the tour. The food provided, although plentiful is not of the greatest quality.
The best part of the trip has to be the boat ride along the aqua blue waters on Nassau's harbour that changes colours with depth. The boat ride takes you along the star-studded shoreline showcasing some of the best real estate properties Bahamas has to offer. Some of these homes are just spectacular.
From recent readings it seems that soon residential homes will be making their way to Rose Island to fill the need for waterfront properties. What kind of effect this may have on the island is debatable at this point.
The tour was offered through Sunquest in conjunction with the tour operators located at the RIU Resort. For the price and the way the tour was being advertised, we kind of expected more and you are probably better off finding something of better value.
