If you want a fun night out with traditional Bavarian music, food and style then the Hofbrauhaus is an entertaining way to spend the night. Located in the core of Munich, this beer hall attracts tourists mainly for its wild atmosphere and litre sized beers.
You can find various types of beer from the local brewery and it does not stop there, the food here is delicious too. From cheese platters to pretzels to large schnitzel dishes you can find almost anything you want. When I was here I had the Wiener schnitzel pork tenderloin cut with homemade potato salad for about 7.90 euros and it was actually quite good. Although people mainly come here to drink beer you do not need to only utilize that option, their food is great too and worth a try.
One thing that is unique about the Hofbrauhaus is its communial seating. Long stretches of wooden carved benches one after the other allow the beer drinking public to sit close to one another promoting friendship. Such seating here in North America is hard to find.
Part of the fun is the local polka band playing many of the favourite beer drinking songs custom to Bavarian lifestyle. Don't be surprised to see lines of people jumping around following the band as they march throughout the large establishment. Pretzel ladies also walk along the aisles just in case you have a sudden urge.
It is fun and laid back and the prices are not too steep so make sure you come here for some good old fashioned beer and cuisine on your next trip to Munich.
