Part of the Renaissance hotel in Oranjestad, L.G. Smiths stands out for its alluring and contemporary appeal. It has an expansive fine dining menu and the restaurant is as hip as it is elegant. Blue lights that illuminate the white tables, white drapes and stonework offset the white interior. This makes the blue lights seem prominent but yet soft, which leads to an ambient dining atmosphere and gives this restaurant a very modern appeal. Although the tables are closely knit, there is still a great deal of privacy and intimacy throughout the restaurant.
The large glass window at the front of the restaurant overlooks downtown Oranjestad and the sea, which includes the port where the many cruise liners dock. This majestic view is even more spectacular when dining during an Aruban sunset.
In the back of the restaurant is a large lounging area with white couches also lit by soft blue lighting. A live band plays here often as you sip a cocktail and look out the big glass window onto the casino floor.
The menu features prime cuts of beef and fish as well as an assortment of seafood and side dishes that are ordered a la carte. The food is tempting because everything here is delicious. The wine list is also quite expansive and be prepared to pleasantly debate the many options available.
Any doubts on what you may want, no worries, the serving staff is more than happy to help you and make your experience at the restaurant like no other. Our server was attentive to details, very knowledgeable, but yet knew the right amount of privacy we wished.
This restaurant is everything a fancy restaurant should be, elegant, great food, excellent service and an ambience that is truly unique. For its contemporary appeal, quality and vast variety, I have to rate this as one of the best restaurants I have been to. Among Aruba's other fine dining options, L. G. Smith's must be on your list.
