Something you can enjoy either during the day or night; for a special occasion, for lunch or dinner or even just for a cocktail. The canal cruises offered in Amsterdam's city area are as common as they are special. It is a great way to tour the city and also get a feel for something a little more on the unique side.

Cruises through the canals of the city sail regularly throughout the day. Various options are available that cover the vast network of waterways. I encourage everyone to try at least one type of cruise to at least get a feel for the area around you, and also because it's a light way to spend the day or evening, especially if you don't feel like walking too much and you just want to see some sights.

To sail all the canals of the city non-stop takes about two hours. Throughout the city there are stop points where the boats dock briefly to allow passengers the opportunity to get on or off and explore a particular part of town by foot. This option is ideal as it allows you to get around town at your own pace and explore those parts that are interesting to you. When you are done at one spot, you just wait for the next boat and hop on to continue the cruise. Of course, you can always stay on board for the full trip if you like.

Some may consider the canal cruises tacky, but for 9.50 euros for a day pass, I think it is a great and economical way to see the city in style.
