Cool, hip, trendy, swank. These are all words that can be used to describe the Drake Hotel. A hotel with over 100 years worth of history, it wasn't until 2001 that a large renovation project took place to transform this boutique hotel/hangout spot into a "hotbed of culture".

Located in the west end of Toronto in the eclectic Queen Street West district, the Drake Hotel showcases many artistic expressions, new and old. Offering modern accommodations that include rooms with all the latest of amenities such as flat-panel televisions, DVD/CD players and down comforters, it is arguable that the site makes more money off of its bar, restaurant and club then its hotel rooms.

With events lined up nightly, it seems the Drake Hotel is always at the centre of attraction and attention. That would explain the crowds that flock here on a regular basis. The main lounge area is made up with refurbished couches and chairs that allow patrons to relax and sip the beverage of their choice. The interior and decor is very artsy and gives off an old school charm with new school flair. Unlike many other nightspots in the city, the Drake focuses on offering a relaxed atmosphere without the attitude. Aside from the lounge area, there is also a dining room, sushi (raw) bar and upstairs terrace patio. Located downstairs, the nightclub hosts various functions that showcase the diverse artistic and musical appeal of the night.

On the weekends make sure you arrive early otherwise be prepared to wait in line to get into the lounge. Also, parking is limited to a small public city lot across the street and in the industrial area nearby where police gladly enforce parking regulations. This place gets packed and getting to the bar can be a challenge. It seems word has gotten out on how trendy this place is as it attracts a broad crowd of attractive people all who just want to relax and mingle over drinks and food. The crowd primarily though is mature, 25+.

If you're looking for a chill place to meet people and have some drinks then for sure the current flavour of the moment is the Drake Hotel.
