Schloss Nymphenburg (Palace) was built in the 17th century, but was not finished until the 19th century. It was used as a summer retreat for the Bavarian Electors and Kings. Located just a few kilometres from the city centre and easily accessible by local transit, the Palace sits on over 500 acres of land in grand and splendor style.
The interior of the Palace itself is divided into several rooms hosting various pieces of artwork and sculptures in its galleries. The facade of the building is a subdued baroque. On the outside, one will find a massive and well-maintained English-style garden divided by a long canal that runs from the lake in the front of the Palace to the far end wall of the garden. Throughout the garden various sculptures can be found as one casually strolls through the many walkways. During the right time of the year, the scenery can be beautiful as you enjoy the tranquil and peaceful surroundings.
If you have a couple of hours to spare and want to enjoy a nice afternoon or morning walk, think about heading a bit north and enjoy the gardens of Schloss Nymphenburg.
