Reasonably distanced away from the chaos of South Beach, The Indian Creek Hotel is a thoroughly restored 1936 building that offers guests the Art Deco feel of the surrounding area but without being in the middle of things.

Facing the Indian Creek waterway and along a semi-busy one way street, this 4 storey hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the beach and boardwalk. Also, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the main South Beach restaurants and shopping areas.

The hotel itself is charming and simple starting with its lobby, bright and vibrant showcasing the Art Deco style that is expected in this area. The elevator was one of the first for the region, and one can tell as it is definitely slow and old, but in a good way as it adds to the atmosphere. But, seeing that the building is only 4 stories high, we suggest you take the stairs unless you are carrying heavy luggage.

The rooms are quant and decorated with pastel colours. Duvet bed covers, spacious semi walk-in closets and laminate flooring are some of the other features for this budget priced hotel. The one negative part is the bathroom, which is extremely tight. The hotel also offers a basic continental breakfast for its guests.

Humourously, the room keys are attached to a miniature alligator that will force guests to drop off the key with the front desk each time you leave the building.

If possible, ask for a room away from Indian Creek Drive, as it can get busy at times and so staying away from car noise would be advisable. Parking is limited, mostly on the street so ask the hotel beforehand what is available and its cost.

One of the nicest things about the hotel is its outside garden and landscaped pool area. Very lush and tropical, it is a great place to lounge and bask in the sunshine.

A restaurant and bar is also on site now, which is good because there aren't too many other choices nearby, unless you want to walk 15 minutes or so. The hotel staff is also very kind and helpful.

If coming by taxi from the airport, it's a $35 USD flat rate.

Overall, this budget priced hotel meets expectations and if you're looking for something with charm but away from the South Beach hype then the Indian Creek Hotel is worth checking out.
