It is such a shame when you see great potential in a place and it turns out to be everything just short of blah. This is what I found after spending the night at Mix Lounge in Las Vegas. Situated in THEhotel at Mandalay Bay -- 64 floors above the city -- it has arguably the best view in Las Vegas. All the hotels are visible and clear starting with Luxor all the way down to Stratosphere. But what is missing from this fashionable venue is a menu to make it outstanding. Your options are limited, food is extremely overpriced, and furthermore just isn't that great.

I hate to see such potential go to waste here, as it does have stunning silver and white decor all around the restaurant, including a giant beaded curtain which looks very much like bubbles falling from the sky. The decoration was very innovative and modern-chic. However, you can't just enjoy an evening based on furnishings, there has to be practicality too, and the menu here just didn't cut it. The tables were bistro size, which for drinks can look appealing, but when you want to enjoy a nice dinner, a small table like this just doesn't cut it.

I also would expect that for a restaurant of this quality that the service should be top notch, which it may well be under normal circumstances, but on this occasion I found the waiter to be disinterested and rude at times, which turned me off.

Although I wasn't impressed at all with the dining venue, I will give credit to the lounge and cocktail area. This is where you can actually sit outside or inside and enjoy a cocktail of your choice. Hindsight is always 20/20, but if we were to go back we would only ever go back to the lounge for a drink. Be sure to call about cover charge, if you arrive late to the cocktail lounge they most likely will make you pay to get in.

Also keep in mind that you are on the very end of the Las Vegas strip, so although you will get the best view you will still have to jump in a cab depending on where you want to go after. There are just so many other good restaurants to try so no need wasting your dinner wallet on this restaurant.
