Overview

Located in the heart of Cancun's tourist zone, this all-inclusive beachfront property boasts 569 rooms in its 14-storey tower and annex buildings. With its excellent location, the Riu Cancun is 20kms from the airport and 10kms from downtown Cancun. It is about 7 minutes to Coco Bongo and the other nearby bar/club scene. The views of the Caribbean Sea are amazing and every room faces the ocean.

The property is quite large and very well kept. The staff is continually cleaning and the service is top rate regardless if it is in the restaurant, at the front desk or any of the cleaning staff. The decor of the hotel is very warming and from the moment you step into its large lobby you know that you will have a great time.

The hotel staff tries their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Service at the bars is relatively quick, the alcohol is good and every day there are games and activities going on. In the evening the night is concluded with some sort of show in the theatre, which usually draws a large audience so arrive early to grab a good seat. There is also an on-site disco which opens some nights of the week and gets decent traffic.

Rooms

The rooms are very nicely decorated and immaculate. The bathroom is very spacious and our room (simple ocean view) had a dual sink. The fridge was stocked and the staff never let it get empty. Like all Riu hotels, there is also a liquor dispenser which includes: vodka, rum, tequila and something else I can't remember. We stuck to mainly the beer in the fridge, which was XX instead of Corona, which was a pleasant surprise. The beds are firm, which seems to be a staple of any Riu hotel. For us that is not a concern, but for others I heard complaints. We can't argue, but yes the room was damp. The bed cover was damp to the touch, but it is a humid climate so this is nothing unexpected. Running the air conditioner on a regular basis and keeping the sliding door open for short periods of time seemed to regulate the problem but be forewarned. Also, bring a travel size can of Febreeze with, which helps keep the damp smell in check. But, we found this no different than any other quality hotel in the Caribbean.
