It is hard to believe that this deep canyon will emerge a short hike from US Route 89 just outside of Page, Arizona. Horseshoe Bend is 8km downstream from Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Park the car in the subtle parking lot right off the highway and take the 2.4km (round trip) hike over a dirt hill and voila. Without much effort, you can see one of the finer geological marvels along the Colorado River, up close and personal.

The impressive 2300km Colorado River begins its descent from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and meanders its way through a few states before making its way into the Gulf of California. Along the way is Horseshoe Bend in Page, Arizona, where you can admire the impressive canyon from the steep cliff 300m above. There are no guard rails and you will not be the only one there enjoying the view, so be aware and careful.

You will want to allow at least 1 hour here in order to make the hike and enjoy the view.
